When thinking of replacing kitchen cabinets, IKEA isn’t always the first place that comes to mind. In my opinion, one which is shared by many people, IKEA cabinets offer the best quality per dollar on the market. Below are a few reasons why I recommend taking a look at IKEA Kitchens.
For me, quality is the most important factor when selecting kitchen cabinets. IKEA’s lower price does not mean lower quality. In 2004 Consumer reports completed a review of kitchen cabinets at different price points. The review included premium cabinet makers, mid level and basic. The IKEA cabinet tested was IKEA basic cabinet. In the review, the basic IKEA cabinet outscored 10 higher priced cabinets and was outscored by premium cabinets only marginally that were five times more expensive. Below is the ranking;
Within the survey Consumer Reports noted that price doesn’t guarantee performance, highlighting that the IKEA product outperformed much more expensive units
IKEA cabinets have only improved since this report with different lines, new options and creative and innovative storage options. .
A complete kitchen remodel can cost as much as you could imagine, with a kitchen with custom cabinets coming in over $50,000 and average kitchen remodels coming in around the $15 to $25K mark.
This is where IKEA can’t be beat. While you may be looking at $5 – $10 thousand for basic cabinets at Home Depot or Lowes, a basic 10X10 kitchen at IKEA starts from as little as $1,000.
When planning a kitchen, the components that take it up a notch are the appliances and the countertop. IKEA lets you have the best of both worlds. You will get great quality cabinets at an unbeatable price, which will leave you with extra money to splurge on the counter and appliances of our dreams. When shopping the higher end cabinets, you will find features such as full extension draws and soft closing drawers as pricey additions. IKEA offers these exact same features standard, but at a price point that makes it attainable.
Part of the great benefits of being offered such a wide range of door options at IKEA, is that you can change it up when ever you want a change. It’s really that easy. 5 years down the road, you want to refresh your space, change out the doors, add some glass inserts and you will have transformed your space. You could even change your doors to match the seasons! Why not at these prices? With IKEA our options are endless, and can stretch as far as your imagination allows.
Last but not least is the environment. While the debate on whether solid wood it better than renewable wood options is ongoing, from my experience there is very little difference as long as the cabinets are made well. IKEA utilizes renewable material in their cabinets which saves you money and minimizes the impact on the environment.
So should you choose IKEA Kitchen Cabinets? Only you can make that call, but I would definitely recommend that you take a close look at what they have to offer, and to see how far you can stretch your budget while getting the kitchen of your dreams.
